Marcus Smith: England fly-half signs long-term contract at Harlequins

Marcus Smith has signed a new long-term contract that will keep him at Harlequins until at least 2028.

The 25-year-old England fly-half has committed his future to Quins, the club who have overseen his development from academy talent to one of the best players in the world in his position.

Smith became the second-youngest player in Gallagher Premiership history to make their debut when he started for his boyhood club against London Irish in September 2017, aged just 18 years and 200 days.

He has gone on to make 166 appearances for Quins, scoring 35 tries and 1,505 points, and was instrumental in their 2020/21 Gallagher Premiership title triumph, where he ended the season as the league's top scorer.

"I'm super excited to sign a new deal with Harlequins," Smith said. "I love the club; it's given me and my family a lot over the years and I'm looking forward to the future here.

"Every time I come into the training ground, I'm excited about the future of the club because I can see the level of talent we have in the building. We've always prided ourselves on our homegrown talent, and I think everyone is going to see more of that in seasons to come.

"Every time I play at The Stoop, I feel the love from the fans and their support for not only myself, but the team - I think they provide the best support this league has to offer. Personally, and collectively, we are all so grateful for them.

"I've come through the academy and still play with a lot of my best mates - hopefully we can achieve more of our dreams together."

Smith has earned 39 caps and scored 284 points representing England and, in 2021, was called up to the British and Irish Lions' tour of South Africa.

He underscored his world-class credentials during England's indifferent Autumn Nations Series campaign with stellar performances against New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Japan.

Along with Scotland's Finn Russell, he is vying for the starting 10 role on the Lions' tour of Australia in 2025.
